Thank you so much for writing this. I FINALLY left teaching after 14 years of very much feeling trapped in the system! I finally payed attention to how being in the school environment/culture made me feel - physically & emotionally. And I found returning after maternity leave really difficult, in a way that it wasn’t for other recent moms. All my senses were over stimulated, I couldn’t think straight or make decisions. I’d wanted to leave for so long but stayed to save for the mortgage, the maternity leave etc. etc.
I hope I can support my children to ‘tune in’ with how places, people and situations make them feel so that they can seek opportunities that align with who they actually are rather than seek jobs that they think will be good for them.
Katie, thank you so much for your incredibly, honest sharing. I feel your relief and I'm so happy to hear that you reached the point (both practically with the financial side and also seeing with such clarity how the environment made you feel) where you could finally leave a situation which had left you feeling so trapped.
It sounds like you're already so well placed to guide and support your own children to live in alignment in their own lives, by living in alignment yourself. It's wonderful to welcome you here to the HSP Revolution community.
I particularly liked this newsletter, which addresses so much of how I’m thinking and feeling!
As a High Sensation Seeker I’m naturally rebellious I was never going to make it to senior management I’m just not a yes-man. I don’t particularly like working in a team or managing one. I want to work alone and my life to be a creative process.
Although I feel like jacking it in at times I’m very fortunate my job pays for me to indulge my creative endeavours. I’m about two years away from going part-time or perhaps self-employment, but as you wisely suggested I’m going to start small, I think incremental steps are better rather than giant leaps!
Matt, thanks so much for your detailed sharing and I'm so pleased that you liked this newsletter. It's great that you are able to have the financial means to express your creative side and endeavours. So many HSPs are well suited to part time or self-employment, so yes it's good to start small and take those incremental steps. Keep trusting your journey!
